7 Master Steps- Step 6: Condition new behaviours
4 Feb, 2021

Once we have created our alternatives we then need to embed these in out conscious and carry out the work that will lead us to their fulfillment.

It is universally true that to get a different result we must endeavor to do things differently and this is where our behaviours comes in.

There is much discussion at the moment about habits and their successful adoption, behaviours are effectively our habits manifest in actions and this is a good way to think of things.

The behaviours that we perform drive us forward and either help us or hinder us in achieving our results. When we look to condition our behaviours we are looking to adopt and embed the behaviours that will lead us to success and avoid those that could or would lead us to failure.

It might be confusing to some of you as to why behaviours do not come naturally that lead to success and there are a good many reasons why this might not be the case. If we go back to six human needs depending on the behaviour that is required there may very well be conflicts with your particular highest needs. for example if you are starting a new business and your highest need is for security then you may struggle with making difficult decisions that require some element of risk.

Changing this behaviour is easier said than done but if we first recognise that there is an issue then this at least makes it easier to address. Consciousness over our behaviours and the changes that are required is 80% of the equation. Once we understand this we then must resolve to adopt our new behaviours and put sufficient methods in place to make them stick. One very popular example of this is putting your gym clothes next to the bed so that when you get up in the morning you see them and immediately get into the behaviour of a morning workout… personally I don’t think it is as easy as this but the principle is sound.

Quite often when I work with people this is a significant part of where I can help. I don’t like to think so much in terms of accountability as ultimately this can come from ONLY you but rather I can help brainstorm and pinpoint the ideal behaviour and then help with it’s successful adoption.
